Alternatives to drilling offered

Presenting the case for conservation instead of exploration, the Natural Resources Defense Council on Tuesday offered alternatives to meet the increasing demand for energy among consumers.

The group said fuel-efficient cars and energy-efficient homes will reduce demand thus eliminating the need for drilling for oil in places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Supporters of exploration counter by saying the country needs a long-term national energy policy.
