Norton's park funding said not enough

MARCH 16, 2001 The superintendent of the Rocky Mountain National Park on Thursday said Secretary of Interior Gale Norton's pledge of $40 million over five years won't help the popular but struggling Colorado resource. As part of President Bush's campaign promise, Norton has said the National Park Service will provide $5 billion over five years to the nation's parks. The money is aimed primarily at capital improvement projects. In the case of the Rocky Mountain, however, the funding won't help the park deal with crowd problems and pollution, says superintendent Randy Jones. Get the Story:
