Support for dam breaching drops

MARCH 8, 2001

Support among Idaho residents for the breaching of dams on the lower Snake River has dropped in what conservationists say is a reaction to the current energy crisis.

In a Boise State University poll, 58 percent of 706 respondents said they opposed breaching with 32 percent in support. But the same poll conducted last year showed almost even support.

Tribal leaders in the state support breaching in order to save threatened or endangered salmon.
