Status of forest rules appeal in doubt

MAY 16, 2001

US Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth on Tuesday said he doesn't particularly care if the Bush administration appeals a court order blocking the Department of Agriculture's roadless forest initiative.

Bosworth said he is more interested in working with others to make sure the rules are implemented well. Secretary Ann Veneman said the same thing when a federal judge last week blocked the rules.

Environmental groups who intervened in the state of Idaho's lawsuit against the rules say they will appeal to the 9th Circuit.
