MAY 16, 2001

The Yavapai Prescott Tribe of Arizona on Tuesday received a deed to five acres of sacred land in Inscription Canyon.

The canyon contains petroglyphs of tribal history. The developers of a ranch in the canyon decided to give some of the land to tribe.

The tribe hopes to have the Bureau of Indian Affairs take it into trust as soon as possible. The tribe also wants to ensure the petroglyphs are preserved and prevent them from vandalism.
