State damages Pueblo site

MAY 23, 2000 The New Mexico Highway and Transportation Department reports that its own construction crews damaged between 39 and 46 percent of a 19th century Pojoaque Pueblo site. The damage was caused by crews working on US 84/285 in January. An assessment of the site occured in February and March. The state is witholding further information about the site, citing the federal Historic Preservation Act and state confidentiality laws. Both laws prohibit dissemination of information in order to prevent looters from finding the site. Get the Story:
