Cochiti Pueblo and the Bureau of Land Management have had a cooperative management agreement since 1997 over the Tent Rocks Area located near the tribe's land in central New Mexico. Visitors use Cochiti roads to get to the 5,400 acre natural site and Pueblo employees patrol the area daily.

As part an effort to increase funding and ensure protection of the area, the BLM and Sandoval County are asking Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt and President Clinton to declare the area a national monument. A County resolution is up for approval on Thursday of this week.
