JUNE 13, 2001 Former Senator Slade Gorton (R) of Washington has apparently taken Bush's "uniter not a divider" slogan to heart. According to Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist Joel Connely, Gorton says partisan fighting over the President's national energy policy can be solved. If the Bush administration and Republicans agree to new fuel efficiency standards for cars and seek for more energy efficiency, the Democrats can stop fighting increased development of public lands.
