JUNE 2, 2000

The Yakama Nation of Washington is seeking control of the Priest Rapids and Wanapum hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River. The tribe has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to grant them "intevener status" in order to apply for a license to operate the dams. An economic development spokesman said the tribes want to market the power from the dams.
