JUNE 29, 2001

Tribes in Nevada and residents in Reno are fighting a proposed kitty litter mine proposed on 300 accres of federal land.

The mine would be about 10 miles away from downtown Reno. Opponents say it will cause pollution and disturb ancestral remains.

Oil-Dri, the world's largest maker of cat litter, says it wants to be a good neighbor.
