Bush urged against off-shore drilling

JUNE 7, 2001

A group of New England Senators have written a letter to President Bush, urging him not to consider lifting an existing ban on oil and natural gas drilling along their states' coastline.

The group is worried that Bush and Secretary of Interior Gale Norton will target their coastline now that the Outer Continental Shelf Policy Committee has recommended examining more off-shore production. They don't want the Bush administration to drill in Georges Bank, a 185-mile bank stretching from lower Massachusetts to upper Maine.
