TUESDAY, JULY 17, 2001 An endangered right whale caught in fishing line is headed for Canadian waters but American scientists don't expect efforts to save the animal to end. Scientists from the National Marine Fisheries Service are planning on working with the Canadian government should the whale, nicknamed "Churchill" cross the boundary. The Canadian government would have to take the lead on any rescue. The NMFS has made several attempts to free the whale from the fishing line. The whale has since developed a life-threatening infection. Get the Story:
