Residents of the Puerto Rican island of Vieques overwhelmingly want the Navy to stop bombing exercises there, results of a non-binding referendum held on Sunday show.

Some 68 percent called for the bombing to end immediately while 30 percent said the Navy should stay. Just 2 percent supported President Bush's proposal to end bombing by 2003 but allow training with inert bombs in the meantime.
