THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2001 The economic development corporation of Pojoaque Pueblo has agreed to clean up a smoldering manure pile at a race track it owns in New Mexico. The agreement will allow the tribe to reopen the race track, located just outside of Santa Fe. Santa Fe County Commisioners voted 3-5 to approve a plan to reopen the Downs, provided the tribe clean up the pile -- which may contain as much 9,000 truckloads of waste -- within two years. The Pueblo estimates it will cost between $1 million and $2 million to clean the waste. The track has been closed since 1997. Get the Story:
