The Bureau of Land Management is considering introducing about 20 black-footed ferrets for a new recovery colony in Montana.

The ferret is one of the most endangered mammal in North America. It is being reintroduced in the Plains, including a site on the Fort Belknap Reservation.

Tribes are seeking federal funds to help restore the population by starting prairie dog programs. The ferret feasts solely on prairie dogs.
