Hecla Mining Co. announced on Monday that it has reached an agreement with the United States on historical mining in the Coeur d'Alene Basin in Idaho.

The settlement is in response to the largest Superfund case ever brought to trial. The lawsuit was filed by the United States and the Coeur d'Alene Tribe.

Despite the proposal, the tribe hasn't signed off on it yet.

The company is agreeing to pay a total of $138 million for the next 30 years, with an additional monies to be paid if the company's financial situation improves. The Department of Justice and the tribe had estimated the cleanup cost at $3 billion while the state put the figure at $450 million.

Another company involved in the lawsuit, Asarco, has not agree to settle.
