Fires still burning at Colville

FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 2001

The 80,000-acre Virginia Lake fires are still burning on the Colville Reservation in Washington.

The main fire has been contained while the St. Mary's fire, at 31,860 acres, is 40 percent contained.

About 550 soldiers from Fort Lewis have been helping battle the blaze. Indian Country crews are also fighting fires.
