Alaska fishery disaster declared

MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2001 Alaska Governor Tony Knowles (D) on Friday declared the commercial salmon fisheries in Western Alaska an economic disaster. Knowles will ask the Bush adminstration for federal aid to help rectify the situation, including money from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to help Alaska Natives. State aid will also be available.
