Montana seeks disaster designation

AUGUST 30 2000 Montana Governor Mike Racicot has asked President Clinton to declare the state a federal disaster area, hoping to bring much-needed support to fire efforts. Funds to rebuild the state would also be needed. Racicot estimated $13.6 million in unemployment benefits for workers and $36 million in Small Business Administration loans would be needed. The fire has cost the state so far $120 million. Get the Story:
