AUGUST 3, 2000 Even though they have been unable to locate 140 cases of dynamite, federal officials are planning on blowing up a farm field on the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota today. All 523 residents of Agency Village have been evacuated from the city since last weekend in preparation for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Environmental Protection Agency. They came to detonate two separate deposits of dynamite on Monday, but have so far failed to find them. They've used suveys, bomb crew dogs, the last surviving member of the original BIA crew who apparently buried the dynamite in 1938, and special electronic devices; all to no avail. Many tribal members are upset they have had to stay away from their homes for so long. Get the Story:
