Endangered whale feared dead

Scientists fear an endangered right whale -- one of 300 known in existence -- has died off the coast of Massachusetts.

A transmitter attached to Churchill has not emitted signals since Sunday, said the Center for Coastal Studies on Wednesday. There may be a technical problem, but the center is not optimistic.

Scientists have tried to save the whale, first observed in June entangled in fishing line. The line caused an infection.
