Ban on Great Lakes drilling said legal

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2001 Proposed legislation to ban oil and gas drilling in the Great Lakes appears to be legal, accorrding to the Congressional Research Service. Michigan Gov. John Engler wants to allow more drilling on from his state's shoreline. But Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D), also of Michigan, is proposing legislation to ban development for the next two years. Great Lakes drilling is not part of President Bush's energy goals, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton will say. Get the Story:
