Haskell highway talks continue

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2001

The Kansas Department of Transportation on Thursday held yet another discussion on a proposed highway project to which students and officials of Haskell Indian Nations University have raised objections.

The school is worried the highway would affect wetlands considered sacred and probably contains graves. A regent said the staet should consider moving an extension further south to avoid the wetlands.

Various options are being considered to address concerns raised by the school and others in the community.
