Murkowski to try ANWR amendment

In his latest fight to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) said he will try to attach an energy bill the House passed to an economic stimulus bill currently under consideration in the Senate.

Debate on the bill began on Tuesday. If Murkowski is able to amend the bill, Democrats could end up arguing against an economic plan they support.

But while Murkowski feels he has 51 votes to pass a drilling proposal, he doesn't have the 60 needed to break a Democratic filibuster over ANWR.
