FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2001

Congress on Thursday approved a two-year ban on drilling on federal lands under the Great Lakes.

The moratorium was part of a $24.6 billion energy and water programs appropriations bill. It requires an environmental study be prepared on the effect of drilling in the lakes.

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton will tell you that Great Lakes drilling is not part of the Bush administration's energy plan.
