Failed whale rescue cited as costly

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2001 Federal scientists probably won't launch massive efforts in the future to save endangered whales from certain death, they have acknowledged after learning the cost of an initiative ot rescue a right whale trapped in fishing line. According to The Cape Cod Times of Massachusetts, the effort cost more than $250,000. Some federal officials believe the figure is a low estimate. The whale in question, nicknamed Churchill, is believed to have died in September. Get the Story:
