The National Park Service will set new rules related to snowmobile usage at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

The rules are aimed at reducing employee exposure to emissions from the snowmobiles. Riders often leave their machines idle at the entrance, causing complaints.

The park itself is supposed to be free of snowmobiles altogether by the winter of 2003-2004 but a lawsuit filed by the snowmobile industry has delayed implementation.
