Interior budget being reshuffled

THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2002 President Bush will propose a "net increase" in the Department of Interior's conservation budget but the hike will come as a result of shifting or refocusing other funds, said a department official. Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget Lynn Scarlett said the increase will include $100 in land conservation programs. The program will provide grants to private landowners, local governments and tribes, she said. Bush will release his fiscal year 2003 budget next Monday. Get the Story:
