The Department of Interior's proposed fiscal year 2003 budget includes $1.5 million to acquire land for the Tent Rocks National Monument near Cochiti Pueblo in New Mexico, a request Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) says he will help push through.

The monument is officially called the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. Kasha-Katuwe means "white cliff" in Keres, the language of Cochiti Pueblo.

The monument was declared by President Bill Clinton in January 2000. Domenici sits on the Interior Appropriations subcommittee.
