The Department of Energy is planning to file thousands of documents in federal court in an attempt to prove it consulted with environmentalists on President Bush's national energy policy, reports The Washington Post today.

Documents cited by the paper claim environmental groups rebuffed the Bush administration's outreach efforts. In their lawsuit, the groups contend just the opposite and say they were refused meetings and access during the formulation of the policy.

The documents are being filed pursuant to of a court order. A federal judge directed the Department of Energy to disclose them, criticizing government officials for not responding to the records request by the environmentalists sooner.
