The full House Energy and Commerce Committee voted on Thursday to approve the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.

The 41 to 6 vote sends the measure to the full House floor. Approval could come next week.

Objections have been raised in the Senate but the votes to reject the site are not solid. Hearings will be held in the Senate soon.

The state of Nevada and area tribes oppose storing up to 77,000 tons of highly radioactive waste at the site.
