Coalbed methane leases ruled illegal

The Department of Interior Board of Land Appeals ruled last Friday that three coalbed methane drilling leases in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming are illegal.

The board said the Clinton administration failed to conduct a proper environmental analysis. The decision affects 2,500 acres but could have a wider impact throughout the country.
