WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2002

Bureau of Indian Affairs firefighters and a county crew are battling a 70-acre fire in New Mexico just miles from a Navajo Nation school.

The raging man-made fire is in the Chuska Mountains and is difficult to reach. A local volunteer crew tried to help out but was turned away.

The Tohaali Community School is ready to evacuate students if necessary.
