Change is nothing new to indigenous communites but the speed at which industrialized culture has affected the Inuit way of life in Canada is linked to the problems many face.

Alcoholism, suicide, and unemployment are just some of the ills which have hit Inuit communities. The legacy of forced schooling also lives on in the breakdown of cultural traditions.

But the Inuit are increasingly adept in living in both a traditional and modern world. In Nunavut, Canada's Inuit-run province, determining the future of the the Inuit way of life is in Inuit hands.
