AUGUST 11, 2000

The 346 First Nations who failed to file satisfactory financial audits with the Indian and Northern Affairs face losing their share of the $4.9 billion in federal funds.

The Assembly of First Nations accused the federal goverment of making the audit process too complex and intrusive. Matthew Coon Come, chief of AFN, said First Nations are required to disclose salaries while provincial governments do not.
