AUGUST 3, 2000

The Okanagan First Nation of British Columbia is threatening a blockade of a golf course in order to draw attention to their land claims.

The Okanagan say they will close the road leading to the course on Saturday. The closing threatens one popular golf event on Sunday and could continue through the week unless the Robert Nault, Indian Affairs Minister, meets with them to discuss the claim.

The First Nation is seeking compensation for 26,000 acres of land where the golf course is located.
