Proposed Indian Offenses Court
The Bureau of Indian Affairs seeks public comment on a final rule to create a Courts of Indian Offenses for the Santa Fe Indian School in New Mexico.

The school property is owned by the state's 19 Pueblo tribes and is considered Indian Country by the courts and the Department of Interior. The final rule would establish the CIO until a inter-tribal court can be created.

Distribution of Highway Funds
The Bureau of Indian Affairs announces the distribution of the final 25 percent of fiscal year 2002 highway funds.

The BIA will use the relative need formula from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Price Trends report in order to distribute the funds. Based on this formula, up to $25,000 in grants is available per tribe.

The amount of total funding is $61.9 million, available until August 15, 2002.
