OCTOBER 11, 2000

A Nebraska state report shows that American Indians in the state have a life expectancy of 68.1 years, compared to 77.9 for whites and 70.1 for African-Americans.

The disparity, and other minority health care issues, are the focus of the Minority Health Conference 2000. It is being held in Lincoln this week.

The study also indicated minorities in the state have lower incomes and sometimes can't afford health care or insurance. Native Americans were also at risk of dying from cancer 1.5 times higher than whites.
