FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2001 A devastating plane crash in Alaska has cost the lives of 10 people, most linked to the Native community. The Bristol Bay Native Association was holding a meeting in Dillingham on Monday and Tuesday of the week. Some attendees boarded the plane which crashed on Wednesday morning. The Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage reported one of the victims, Maryann Christensen, died yesterday. Her son is apparently about to be shipped out to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom and attempts are being made to bring him to Alaska. The Red Cross has sent a team to the area.
