OCTOBER 19, 2000 The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut might host the International Children's Conference on the Environment in 2002. The conference is sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program. They want to hold the event in North America and several tribes, the American Red Cross, and other organizations would host the conference. The Ledyard town council endorsed a proposal to hold the event at the Mohegan Sun casino, owned by the Mohegan Tribe. One councilor abstained from the vote because she questioned whether or not it was a good idea to have children stay at a casino. Get the Story:
