The adoption of Indian children to non-Indian families still concerns tribes and Native Americans.

Even with the passage of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) of 1978, which gives tribes greater control over adoption proceedings, there are strong feelings about the issue, especially from those adopted. Many were led to believe they were not Indian their entire life.
