OCTOBER 31, 2000

The Environmental Protection Agency will review a request to temporarily approve a genetically modified corn product for human consumption.

The EPA on Monday said it will have a 30-day public comment period on the proposal, which begins today. The EPA will also have a public meeting with scientists a month from now.

The company which makes StarLink says it poses no harm to humans.

For more information about the proposal and how to submit comments, visit the EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs at www.epa.gov/pesticides/biopesticides/.
