A Montana woman has been hospitalized with the deadly hantavirus. The virus is carried by rodents, particularly deer mice. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that more than four out of every 10 people who contract the virus die.

The hantavirus gained national attention in 1993 when reports of a mysterious illness was suddenly killing people. The first cases were reported in the Four Corners region of the Navajo Nation, causing the virus to be labeled unfairly as the "Navajo disease." The CDC has since confirmed earlier cases of the virus and has identified outbreaks of it worldwide.
