Report expresses doubts on condom usage

In a draft report to be released today, federal health officials question the effectiveness of condoms to prevent the spread of certain sexually transmitted diseases.

The National Institutes of Health says condoms are effective in fighting the spread of HIV, which causes AIDS, and gonorrhea. But there was no evidence about syphilis, strains of genital herpes and other STDs.
