Bush OKs limited stem cell research

FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2001 In his first televised address, President Bush last night announced his plan to allow federal funding of limited stem cell research. Bush supports research involving stem cells taken from human embryos from in vitro fertilization, but will not allow funding to be used to create human embryos specifically for stem cell research. These stem cells have already been taken from left over embryos "where the life-and-death decision has already been made," he said. Scientists believe that embryo stem cells can be used to provide treatments for Parkinson's disease, Alzheimers, and diabetes. Get Bush's Remarks:
