The Indian Health Service on Friday opened a new $2.7 million clinic on the Spokane Reservation in Washington.

The 13,800-square-foot clinic was funded with $700,000 from the tribe, $1.7 million from the IHS and a $500,000 special Congressional appropriation. Normally, it would take several years for a new clinic to be built but the special funding arrangement pushed it through in five.

The arrangement worked so well that the IHS is pursuing is elsewhere.

The clinic is called David C. Wynecoop Memorial Clinic, named after the former manager of the previous clinic.
