WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2001

Robert Mueller was back at work part-time at the US Attorney's office in San Francisco, four days after he underwent surgery to remove a level 7 biopsy from his prostate.

Most men, said Peter R. Carroll, who is Mueller's doctor, return to work within a month, or in a couple of weeks for less strenous activities.

Mueller, 56, underwent the two and one-half hour surgery on August 2, the day he was confirmed to head the FBI. The timing was a concidence, said Dr. Carroll.

Prostate cancer is the second leading type for men. The first is skin cancer.
