AUGUST 17, 2000 Employees at the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation off-reservation human resources office say their jobs are in danger due to upcoming budget cuts. The workers say the employee health services department will be eliminated. The department happens to be the same one where several employees with cancer work. The tribe is looking into the cancer cases and investigating a potential link to the buildling itself. But they said they won't comment on any rumors of budget cuts or on personnel decisions. A reported five suffer from breast cancer and one ex-employee from prostate. The affected reportedly live in different areas, began work at different times, and have different medical histories.
