Indian mental health study underway

MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2001

Dr. Spero Manson, director of the division of American Indian and Alaska Native programs at the University of Colorado's Health Sciences Center, is conducting a large-scale study of psychiatric disorders in American Indians, which would be the first of its kind.

Manson was an editor on the Surgeon General's report on mental health disparities facing ethnic and racial minorities in the United States. He said he found little studies mental health care among Native Americans.
