The Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Tribe of Wisconsin has asked the Navy to conduct a study of a military communications system to ensure the health and treaty rights of the tribe are being protected.

The tribe wants to know if electromagnetic fields from Project ELF will harm the community. ELF is used to communicate with submarines worldwide.

The tribe says $3 million of studies need to be conducted. The government says the system is safe.
